Marriage and Family Ministries
Marriage and Family Ministry Committee
A Marriage and Family Ministry Committee has recently formed to provide social opportunities, as well as educational and spiritual resources for parish couples and families. More committee members are wanted and needed with varying time commitments. Contact Kristin Hunt for more information.
FOCCUS Facilitators
FOCCUS is a pre-marriage inventory that couples take during the preparation process. They then sit down and discuss the results with a married couple who facilitates the conversation.
The parish is also in great need of FOCCUS facilitators. Offering engaged couples the gift of your experience as a married couple--whether you've been married for one or 20 years--is a rewarding and wonderful way to be a steward in the church. Contact Brian Lunt if you would like more information.
Resources for Married Couples
The United States Bishops, as part of their initiative to support strong marriages, offer a number of online resources on For Your Marriage.
There are also a number of local resources available through the Family Ministries Office of the Archdiocese of Chicago.
Many couples find that Marriage Encounter is a great way to remember why they were married in the first place - and to strengthen their relationship. Local Marriage Encounter resources and retreats can be found here.
Retrovaille is a program designed for marriages experiencing strains and troubles. These weekend retreats are structured to help couples begin to repair their relationship.
Natural Family Planning
Natural Family Planning is a method of spacing pregnancies - or acheiving pregnancy - by using a woman's natural fertility cycle as a guide. Without using artificial contraception, it has the same effectiveness rates of many other methods, without the moral questions and physical side effects.
There are a variety of methods used to determine ovulation. Among them are:
- An overview of various methods
- The Billings Method
- The Creighton System
You can register for sessions to learn one of the various methods here.
Lisa Jurski is a trained Natural Family Planning counselor, who has office hours at St. Alphonsus. You can also reach her at 312-339-7269. Contact her directly to set an appointment.
Charting made easy! There is an app for that! Pro Woman Log - and others.
Other resources are available through the Couple to Couple League.
