Mission Statement

Guided by our faith and our sense of mission, we are called to love and serve the Lord, Jesus Christ, and our neighbor through our worship, by proclaiming the Gospel through our lives of service, and by providing a spiritual and educational foundation for growth in personal holiness.

We do this for those formally associated with our parish, and for our greater community.

We hold before us the goal of being a vibrant and welcoming community that provides for and participates in a variety of ministries, services and events that support discipleship and promote God's power and presence in our daily lives.

The History and Architecture of St. Alphonsus Church

Our parish was founded by the Redemptorists in 1882 to serve the German immigrant population in Chicago. Our church building was dedicated in 1897. Since 2000, the parish has been administered by priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago and serves a varied and mobile population of young adults as well as the German- and Spanish-speaking communities. You can download a brochure which tells more about the pari sh history and also the art and architecture you will find in our church.
